CQD/DWC Les Villas

Our approach to program the neighbourhood contract results out of three socio-spatial dimensions: the open space, the built space and the lived space. Within that context we enhanced the existing situation of the site: public space, existing buildings and local expertise.

 

To stimulate the 'already there' we met various actors on the site and organized thematic participatory weeks, each of them including a general assembly, an exploratory walk and a meeting of the neighborhood commission. In order to touch the more vulnerable public we organized brainstorms around waffles and BBQ's.

 

During the multiple encounters we identified the spatial and social aspects that need to be strengthened in the neighbourhood and identified heritage that should be renovated according to the residents. Last but not least, stimulating encounter and strengthening the social cohesion was one of the main objectives and the reason why 20% of the budget were invested into socio-economic projects.
