KapLab is a collaborative initiative that brings together residents, students, and local actors as part of the “School Contract Institut Le Mot-Couvreur” in the center of Brussels. The aim of the project is to connect people from diverse backgrounds through the co-creation, co-construction, and use of urban furniture.
Deployed across five sites, the project offers opportunities for people to meet through collective experimentation and shared experiences. Inspired by the game Kapla, the team uses standardized wooden modules—sourced from a local forest—that can be endlessly reconfigured. A color code, developed in collaboration with participants from the first workshop (students of the aforementioned institute), adds an additional layer of identity. This workshop took place in April 2025.
Between each workshop, a festive parade will mark the transition from one intervention site to the next. Music, food, and celebration will accompany residents, students, and anyone else who wishes to join in, highlighting the growing reach of the project.
