Sur LE KAAI
The “Sur le Kaai” project invited local residents to actively participate in the co-design and co-construction of urban furniture along the Brussels Canal in Molenbeek.
Building on a co-design workshop held in July 2025, a three-day participatory workshop took place from 19 to 21 September 2025, culminating on Brussels’ Car-Free Day. Participants included children who had joined the first workshop, neighborhood animators, and several neighbors and friends from extended networks. Les Chantiers Battus led the co-construction of two installations, while Alive oversaw their co-painting.
More than functional furniture, these installations symbolize local creativity, collaboration, and the residents’ active appropriation of public space. The project promotes community engagement, aesthetic expression, and inclusive urban play.
